GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH, Darmstadt

Introduction

The Kernphysik I division at GSI-Darmstadt is concerned with the study of nuclear reactions up to relativistic energies. This is accomplished through ongoing experiments at GSI and CERN using light particle (pion, proton) and heavy ion beams.

The study of hot, compressed, and highly excited nuclear matter is accomplished through specialized detector systems designed to detect certain classes of particles, as well as detectors with full phase space coverage that measure a large portion of experimental phase space.
