Experiment Control Systems
The design phase for the next generation experiments at GSI has been started. It became immediatly clear that it is nesseccary to care about experiment control systems from the early beginning. No currently available control system fullfills all primary requirements which were discussed on a workshop in May 2003.
The functionality of next generation experiment control systems at GSI has to cover the wide range from distributed SCADA down to remote DSP/FPGA programming. It must be very flexible and configurable at runtime. Because of very advanced timing and safety requirements hardware and software cannot be addressed separatly. Due to the distributed development of subsystems in international collaborations and limited resources control systems have to deal with heterogenous environments.
The subsequent pages will document the progress of analysis, definition, design and implementation of a Unified Experiment Control System for the next generation of experiments at GSI. Please join the ongoing discussion in our forum->Controls or collaborate in our FAIRcontrol-WikiWeb.
Support for currently ongoing experiments is provided by the Control System group of the EE department.
