Plans for the years 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011Procedure to Apply for Beam Time
At GSI four Program Advisory Committees (PACs) were formed to make recommendations for allocation of beam time based on written proposals. In general the spokesperson is invited for an oral presentation during a public session of the advisory meeting. The decision on beam time allocation is taken by the Scientific Director of GSI based on the recommendations of the advisory committee, and is communicated in writing to the spokesperson of the respective proposal.Calls for Proposals are published on the websites of the respective PAC and through the mailinglist of the GSI Users' Group. This mailing list is based on registrations to the GSI Users' Group.
Proposals for each of the PACs should be submitted by completing a webform. The Webform always includes an obligatory 'Supplementary Form for Safety Aspects'. Into the webform a maximum 4MB-pdf file (not exceeding 10 printed pages) should be uploaded, summarizing the scientific justification and relevant technical details for the proposed experiment. For a continuation request, a brief status report of the previous as well as an outline of the future experiments should be given.
Nuclear and Atomic Physics
The General PAC (G-PAC) meetings are usually held twice a year, typically in early summer and early winter. The date of the next G-PAC meeting as well as the deadline for submission of proposals will be published in the weekly newsletter GSI Kurier and in the internet.Biophysics and Radio-Biology
In the program advisory committee for Biophysics, Radiotherapy and its development, and Radiophysics (Bio-PAC) experiments are evaluated in a similar procedure as in G-PAC meetings. Bio-PAC meetings take place in intervals of two in two years. The date of the next Bio-PAC meeting as well as the deadline for submission of proposals will be published in the internet and through the GSI Users' Group mailinglist.Proposals for GSI's Bio-PAC are to be submitted through the Webform of Bio-PAC. Materials Research
In the program advisory committee for Materials Research (Mat-PAC) experiments are evaluated in a similar procedure as in G-PAC meetings. Mat-PAC meetings take place in intervals of approx. one or one and a half year. The date of the next Mat-PAC meeting as well as the deadline for submission of proposals will be published in the internet.Proposals for GSI's Mat-PAC are to be submitted through the Webform of Mat-PAC.
Plasma and Laser Physics
Proposals for beam time in the context of Plasma Physics and PHELIX are evaluated in intervals of approx. one year in PPAC meetings similar to the procedure for G-PAC. The date of the next PPAC meeting as well as the deadline for submission of proposals will be published in the internet.Proposals for GSI's PPAC are to be submitted through the Webform.

How to Get an Approved Experiment Scheduled
Scheduling of approved experiments is done by the GSI beam time coordinator in close contact with the experimentalists (or their GSI contact persons), the accelerator staff, and an internal GSI "Round Table" committee responsible for coordination between scientific and technical requirements connected with the use of the GSI accelerator facility. Scheduling requests have to be made using the webform. The list of submitted requests can be viewed here.Scheduling of approved Bio-Proposals
When beamtime for granted biophysics experiments is available, spokespersons of approved proposals will be informed by E-mail. For participation in the announced beamtime please return the completed form for beamtime at "SIS" or "UNILAC" minimum 4 weeks prior to the beamtime to the respective coordinator at Biophysics Group, GSI:

Before Coming to GSI for an Experiment
External users are kindly requested to take note of the Safety Procedures at GSI including a form for personal data. The latter should be completed and sent to the GSI Safety and Radioprotection Division well ahead of time. Before beam is delivered to an experiment, a final safety inspection is performed on the basis of an updated check list for safety aspects of the experiment.Persons intending to perform safety-relevant work at GSI are required to possess advanced English skills for communication. (E.g. corresponding to 220 TOEFL-scoring (computer-based) or level 6 of IELTS. No examn result needs to be presented.)
