Workshop and Users Meeting
on
Atomic Physics at SIS and ESR
May 7th - 9th, 2001 (Mon. - Wed.), GSI-Darmstadt
|
The intention of the workshop is:
- to give the present status of the experimental work done at
SIS and ESR
- to discuss the present and future experiments at ESR
and Cave A
- to conclude on a program for the future experiments
|
Recently, we had some improvements at the main accelerator based experimental areas for atomic physics, Cave A and the ESR:
Cave A:
The magnetic spectrometer for final charge state analysis is working.
The diagnostics for the beamline from the ESR towards Cave A for
low-energy ions is installed. Additional power supplies for the SIS
beam lines have been installed so that the Cave A beam line can be
independently operated. Now, Cave A is in full operation for future
experiments both with SIS and ESR beams.
ESR:
The gas-jet target area is just being modified. A zero degree electron
spectrometer is being mounted behind the target chamber. A recoil ion
spectrometer can be inserted into the target chamber as well as
alternatively an array of movable x-ray detectors. The whole
arrangement will come into operation in May 2001.
The operating conditions
at the ESR have been improved continuously in the past. High SIS
intensities and high injection efficiencies provide quickly high
intensities of stored ions. Ions decelerated down to the 12 MeV/u
region are available for in-ring or external experiments.
This
workshop and users meeting for experiments in atomic physics and
related fields at both areas, Cave A and ESR (cooler and gas target
section) will inform you not only on the present status, but give you a
forum to bring forward your questions and the opportunity to discuss
with your colleagues the future program. This is especially necessary
as we need a long range planning for the different types of
experiments, both in Cave A and at the ESR. It is not possible to
frequently change the type of the experimental arrangements.

We devote during the workshop
- Monday mainly to the achievements and status of the physics at ESR,
- Tuesday to the achievements and status of the physics at Cave A,
- Wednesday to the decisions on the future program for ESR and Cave A.
For more information see
The Program is open for contributions.
The success of the future experimental program depends on your active participation during the workshop.
If you want to pressent
- your recent results and / or
- your future research program
please contact P dot Mokler at gsi dot de before April 12.
Workshop on CD:
Instead of a book with copies of the shown transparencies, we intend to
edit a CD with all the presentations. This CD will be sent to the
participant afterwards. Therefore we ask you to deliver an
- e-version of your presentation
in pdf or ps if possible
before May 7, latest at the beginning of the workshop either via e-mail (C dot Hoelzer at gsi dot de)
or by a 3.5" disc, 100MB zip or CD. Each presentation is limited to
20MB and 5 MB for invited talks and contributions, respectively. If you
are unable to prepare your full presentation for electronic
reproduction we appreciate very much receiving for electronic
reproduction at least one page with title and abstract, as well as the
essentials of your presentation and the main figures.
