Guidelines for Program Proposals

We strongly recommend to combine a program with a workshop taking place during the program. In case you apply for a program and a workshop please provide the required information for both in a single file (no duplicating of information required).

A proposal for an EMMI program should contain the following information:

  • Program title
  • Proposed dates for the 4-week program period (Due to lecture periods in Germany dates between mid February and mid April or between mid August and mid October are recommended.)
Programs should in general take place at GSI. (If you propose a different venue, explain the reasons for that choice.)
  • Names and contact addresses of the organizers (at least 2, at most 4, one of them the main coordinator). Note that at least one of them is required to be in residence during the whole program, and all of them should attend the program.
  • Scientific case (about 2 pages)
This should answer the questions: What are the main questions to be discussed? What is their relevance in a wider context? Why does the subject justify a program, and why right now? How is it related to the scope of the ExtreMe Matter Institute EMMI?
  • Estimated number of participants
  • A list of 15 key participants who have explicitly expressed their interest in participating at the program (Note that a stay of less than two weeks is strongly discouraged.)
  • A list of 30 further potential participants
  • A description of the opportunities for young scientists to present their work
  • Cost estimate
  • A statement that a similar proposal is not submitted to any other organization at the same time. If you nevertheless plan to make use of (limited) outside funding, this has to be explained in detail.
Proposals have to be submitted
  • by 10th of April for the April meeting of the PAC
  • by 10th of October for the November meeting of the PAC.
Later submissions will in general be postponed to the following meeting. Note that the program can take place four month after the submission deadline at the earliest.

Proposals should be submitted as a single pdf-file to emmi-workshop@gsi.de.
