Guidelines for EMMI Workshop Proposals

A proposal for an EMMI workshop should contain the following information:

  • Workshop title
  • Proposed dates and place
(If the workshop is not planned to take place at GSI: specify details of the planned venue.)
  • Names and contact addresses of the organizers (at least 2, at most 4, one of them the main coordinator). All of them should attend the workshop!
  • Scientific case (at most 2 pages)
This should answer the questions: What are the main questions to be discussed? What is their relevance in a wider context? Why does the subject justify a workshop, and why right now? How is it related to the scope of the ExtreMe Matter Institute EMMI?
  • Estimated number of participants
  • A list of 10 key participants who have explicitly expressed their interest in participating at the workshop
  • A list of 20 further potential participants (For short workshops of 1 or 2 days this number may be smaller.)
  • A description of the opportunities for young scientists to present their work
  • Cost estimate, planned registration fee
  • A statement that a similar proposal is not submitted to any other organization at the same time. If you nevertheless plan to make use of (limited) outside funding, this has to be explained in detail.

Proposals have to be submitted

  • by 10th of April for the April meeting of the PAC
  • by 10th of October for the November meeting of the PAC.

Later submissions will in general be postponed to the following meeting. Note that the workshop can take place four month after the submission deadline at the earliest.

In very exceptional cases workshops can also be organized on a shorter timescale. (Note that this applies only to workshops in emerging research fields with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity and if the subject needs an urgent discussion.) In such a case please contact us before submitting a proposal.

Proposals should be submitted as a single pdf-file to emmi-workshop@gsi.de
